WHAT IS MISSIONS?
Missions refers to the total task of the church. The word 'commission' means
someone who is 'on assignment' or 'under orders' to carry out a task for
another. Every born again believer has a ''mission' to fulfill in helping
the church complete the Great Commision given to us by Jesus.
Our Mission is Two-fold
Home Missions refers to the task of the church here at home. The Great Commission
was never intended to apply only to 'foreign lands'. This encompasses our
commitment to evangelism and church planting in our home country.
Foreign Missions is the process of taking the gospel beyond
our national boundaries. The world will never be brought to Christ until
we bring Christ to the world.
The Lord has given us scriptural promises and commandments to reach the
nations with His love. Let us claim these promises and obey these commandments!
"But I have raised you up for this very purpose,
that I might show you my power and that My name might be proclaimed in all
the earth." Exodus 9:16
"Ask of Me and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of
the earth your possession." Psalm 2:8
WHY MISSIONS?
This is a lost world. It is spiritually bankrupt as described in Romans
1:18-22. The moral condition of this world is pitiful. Out of almost 6 billion
people on earth, two-thirds are not Christian. It is our responsibility to
take the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ to these lost people.
World Missions is the Lord's command (Matthew 28:19-20). It should be promoted
and practiced because it is based on the love of God for all mankind. God
loves everyone, everywhere (John 3:16).
The love of God is the eternal cause of Missions (Jeremiah 31:3).
This church is missionary in nature (Acts 8:4) and missionary be Pentecostal
demand (Acts 1:8). We are missionary in creed, activity and practice (Romans
1:14). Our hearing, acceptance and belief of the Gospel makes us debtors
to those who have not heard. The love of Christ compels us to make Missions
our wok until Jesus returns.
OUR GOALS
To Glorify God
The primary aim of Missions is the glorification of God. "For the whole
earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord" (Habakkuk
2:14). All we do as Christians should be for the glory of God.
To Expand the Church
The establishment of the church is the logical extension of God, His glory
and His Kingdom. It is the church, the Body of Christ, that is to be established
among" ...every tribe and tongue and people and nation" (Revelation 5:9).
To Convert Non-Believers
As the church pursues its goals to glorify God and establish His church,
it will naturally and actively seek to win the lost to Christ. The Great
Commission will only be fulfilled as we intentionally seek to bring the
Gospel to those yet to accept Christ as Savior.
